Rutland Tool & Supply Recognized For Its Recycling Efforts Whittier, CA - January 13, 2009 - Rutland Tool & Supply Co., North America's leading metalworking distributor was honored this week as a recipient of the 2008 SmartBusiness Recycling Award from the County of Los Angeles.

The award is in recognition for outstanding efforts toward waste reduction. "This demonstrates our company's efforts and concern for protecting the environment", says Mark Jarvey, City of Industry branch manager. Currently all cardboard, wood pallets, aluminum cans, glass, plastic bottles and paper are being recycled.

The SmartBusiness Recycling Program is designed to help businesses reduce the amount of trash they generate and throw away - practices that save money, conserve landfill space, and protect the environment by conserving natural resources. As part of the SmartBusiness Recycling Program, Business Recycling Consultants assist in setting up or expanding waste prevention and recycling programs by visiting facilities and providing recommendations for reducing waste.

In addition, the County maintains a website which includes a "Recycler Locator" which allows access to more than 300 recyclers in the area, as well as industry-specific tips for reducing trash and other resources. The program has helped hundreds of businesses establish or expand recycling programs, and has helped reduce the amount of trash landfilled in L.A. County by 3,400 tons a year.
